Design Trends

Color is the stand-out summer trend, breathing life into everything from fabrics and upholstery to wood and accessories.

<<Red Your Mind

Sligh’s Bungalow TV console’s rumba red finish epitomizes the new direction in wood tones: no more boring browns. The piece features simple, contemporary styling, has a narrower and taller profile, and offers storage in two drawers, an open compartment and behind glass doors. Priced at $2,995 and available through Robb & Stucky.

<<Singin’ the Blues

Kincaid’s armless Brooke chair greets 2010’s happy color scheme with a big, bright floral print from its Kasuals upholstery line. Available at La-Z-Boy Galleries, Naples or Fort Myers, for $627.

<<Random Acts of Color

Hand-painted blue and yellow stripes add visual pop to Sloan World’s three-drawer accent chest. Though not available in stores until later this year, the chest is expected to retail for about $300.

<<Seeing Red

Thomas O’Brien’s Library collection for Hickory Chair includes a replica of a rare 1755 George II mahogany armchair. The Warner chair, shown with a dark walnut finish and nail-head trim, offers the elongated seat and plump cushion that made this style popular in men’s drawing rooms in the mid-18th century. Priced at $4,500, the piece is available at Robb & Stucky.

<<Go with the Flow-er

Rumor has it that dbSource’s brightly colored, organza pillows and pretty-as-a-picture petal lamp caught the eye of Robb & Stucky buyers. The lamp’s ceramic base is hand-finished in aqua and has a metallic gold wash. The shade is adorned with organza flower petals. The cobalt blue pillow is also hand-crafted, with a two-hued blue organza flower. The lamp retails for about $750; the pillow about $250.
