MUSEUMS & GALLERIES

Art League of Bonita Springs.An opening reception and open house for All About Color, a show inspired by Caribbean islands, summer festivals, vivid blooms and travel abroad, is July 23 at the Center for the Arts. (The exhibit remains on display through Aug. 26.) Also, view artists as they create during Artist Studios at the Promenade at Bonita Bay, July 29 from 4–7 p.m. 495-8989.

 

Art Walk. A free downtown art celebration encompassing 11 historic River District art galleries and venues on the first Friday of the month from 6–10 p.m. www.fortmyersartwalk.com.

 

Collier County Museum. In honor of Collier County’s founder and namesake, the Barron Collier and the Boy Scouts of America Centennial Exhibition details his association with prominent political and philanthropic figures of the time. On display through July 31. 252-8476.

 

LIVE MUSIC

Live at the Promenade! An evening of island folk music by John Frinzi and John Patty, complete with island-inspired hors d’oeuvres, is July 15. Also, Erin Dunbar and Jessie Garcia present Summer Sizzle Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. Both performances at the Promenade at Bonita Bay.

SummerJazz on the Gulf.The 25th annual free concert series continues with Late Night Brass (July 24), Mike MacArthur Band (Aug. 28) and Denise Moore and Then Some (Sept. 18). All concerts at 7 p.m. on the Watkins Lawn of the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club. 261-2222.

All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play.The Center for the Arts Youth Theater presents a play based on several disastrous theatrical experiences, July 30–31 at The Promenade at Bonita Bay. 495-8989.

 

Annie.The heart-warming, award-winning musical is on the main stage at Sugden Community Theatre, July 2 to Aug. 1.

Cats.A fully staged production of the beloved Broadway musical is presented by the Naples Players’ KidzAct theater group, Aug. 10–15 at Sugden Community Theatre. 263-7990.

 

Cinema Under the Stars.Catch a free, family-friendly movie every Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. at Gulf Coast Town Center’s Market Plaza. In July, Surf’s Up (on the 6th), The Little Rascals (13th), Astro Boy (20th) and Open Season (27th). Footloose.The Oscar-nominated musical about a mother and son who move from Chicago to a small, religious farming town continues through Aug. 7 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. 278-4422.

FOR THE KIDS

The 101 Dalmatians Musical.A fully staged production by the Naples Players’ KidzAct children’s theater, July 9–11 at Sugden Community Theatre. 263-7990.

 

Camp Florida Rep.A performing arts camp for students in grades kindergarten through 12 features four two-week camps and two one-week camp sessions. At the end of each, campers will put on a fully produced musical production. Sessions run through Aug. 20 at the historic Arcade Theatre in downtown Fort Myers. Conservancy of Southwest Florida Summer Camp 2010.Two new camps this year for kindergarten through eighth grade—including field trips to eco-destinations, hands-on exploration and encounters with wildlife—continue with sessions through July 23 at the Conservancy. 262-0304, ext. 266.

Summer Art Camp.The Art League of Bonita Springs offers camps in painting, digital art, nature art, dance, theater, arts/science, pottery and more for children ages four and up, every week through Aug. 20 at the Center for the Arts. 495-8989.

 

Summer Arts Camp. Students in first to sixth grade participate in visual arts projects and performing arts activities, culminating in a weekly show for friends and family. Through Aug. 13 at the Alliance for the Arts. 939-2787.

 

Teen Boot Camp.Purely You Spa offers its inaugural boot camp to address proper skin care, health and wellness for teens. The camp includes a facial and skin analysis, as well as educational workshops. Runs through July 31. 331-8266.

 

Triple Threat Musical Theatre Camp.Students in seventh to ninth grade learn various forms of dance, basic music theory, acting technique, vocal performance and audition skills, through July 23 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. 939-2787.

LECTURES & LEARNING

Interactive Chocolate Cooking Classes.Make your own scrumptious goodies with Norman Love at his Chocolate Salon in Fort Myers.
