Alliance for the Arts. The 24th annual 2D/3D All Florida Juried Exhibition opens with a reception June 11 from 5–7:30 p.m. The exhibit continues through Aug. 7. 939-2787.

Now We Wine and Shine

Gulfshore Life is proud to be a sponsor of many, many worthy fundraisers each year. We didn’t always have so many opportunities. When we premiered our very first issue in 1970, the little town of Naples wasn’t even a stop on the interstate. As recently as 1997, there were so few charity fundraisers here that our “Gatherings for Good Causes” section included events as far north as Bradenton (the annual Snooty Gala at the South Florida Museum) and our socially prominent big sister, Sarasota (the prestigious Florida Wine Fest and Auction). Snooty, by the way, was—and is—the name of the oldest manatee in captivity. Not to be snooty ourselves, but well, we can’t help but smile over our multi-page feature on Sarasota’s wine event. In 1996, our article says, the “delightful, delicious and diverting” celebration raised an impressive $500,000 for children’s charities. Four short years later, in 2001, Naples unveiled its own wine event, which is now rated No. 1 in its class in the world. The crème of wine society around the globe attends. This year, the Naples Winter Wine Festival raised $8 million for the children of Southwest Florida. In three days. Sarasota’s Florida Wine Fest and Auction has raised $7.1 million. In 19 years.
