This airy condominium lightens up with new use for found space.
Square one: Designer Jenny Carter of K2 Design discovered a wall had been built around a column in this Gulf Harbour condominium, creating two large void spaces on either side. The column was exposed, and the new “found space” became a library niche that forms a backdrop for the otherwise neutral interior. Carter used figured stainless steel sheeting, white lacquer and warm, clear maple to maintain an interesting palette varied in texture.
Find your niche: A multi-dimensional feature wall adds drama and color to the entry. Stark white, drywalled, interlocking niches house colorful glass objets d’art. Each glass vessel sparkles under the halogen lights.
Fruitful living: Clear maple was fashioned into a room divider to give more intimacy to the dining experience in this very open space. Penetrations, or windows, give a peek into the living space and provide an opportunity for colorful display.
Clean lines: With some creativity and a little framing and drywall, a feature wall was created for the master bedroom. Clear maple was used throughout the unit to define a modern, yet warm design language. Here, a clear maple “trellis” was offset from the wall with stainless steel plates and posts, and perimeter lighting was added for ambiance and night lighting.
