Design Trends

These famous faces—from small-screen celebs to renowned designers—are now taking on home furnishings.

Author: Nanci Theoret

Welcome, Celebrities

John Paul Gaultier

Forever linked to the ’80s and Madonna’s iconic steel cone bra, French fashion designer John Paul Gaultier moves out of the boudoir and into the parlor with a furniture collection for Roche-Bobois. Pieces, many of which boast JPG’s signature nautical stripes, are priced from $3,500 and are available at the Roche-Bobois showroom at Miromar Design Center, Estero.

Leslie and Leigh Keno

The Antiques Roadshow expert appraisers and hosts of Collect This! parlay their love of classic design into a new 40-piece collaboration with Theodore Alexander that reflects 18th century through mid-century modern design. The Flying Buttress dining table, available at Robb & Stucky, was inspired by the aerodynamic lines of vintage race cars and features a sleek combination of aluminum and waterfall Bubinga wood. It’s priced at $2,199.

Karim Rashid

Lucky us: Karim Rashid’s collaboration with Rowe Furniture on an exclusive line of furniture and upholstery for the hospitality industry also produced a handful of residential pieces, including the Kubist chair. One of the most prolific modern-day designers, Rashid has created some 3,000 designs, received more than 300 awards and has worked with luxury brands like Veuve Clicquot and Swarovski. The chair, priced at $600, is available at Norris Home Furnishings.

Suzanne Kasler

Home design magazines adore Atlanta-based interior designer Suzanne Kasler, whose new Studio Collection with Hickory Chair includes 40 pieces adapted from her home and travels. The Dalton Library Table, true to the original Kasler discovered in a French modern African villa, has cantilevered shelves, plinth bases and a walnut finish. Available at Bay Design Store in Naples, the Dalton is priced from $4,200.

Paula Deen

Paula Deen, the queen of down-home Southern comfort, officially launches her new collection for Universal Furniture in April, and we got a sneak peek. (You’ve just gotta love a woman who doesn’t shy from real butter and cream, and names a bar after her husband.) We love the generous storage space of Captain Mike’s Bar, shown in linen, which has four drawers, wine storage, a removal tray and a laminated flip top. Priced at $1,499, the bar and other pieces from the Paula Deen Home collection will be available soon at Baer’s Furniture.

Kaffe Fassett

Internationally acclaimed textile artist Kaffe Fassett is known for his quilts, knitting patterns and fabrics, which make the leap onto furniture through a new partnership with C.R. Laine. The artist’s Fassett Rose Spring and Kaleidoscope Spectrum patterns, originally designed as lightweight quilting fabrics, debut as upholstery-weight cotton on the Darby chair (top, $1,635 as shown) and the Leland settee ($2,840 as shown with Benjamin Moore Waterbury green finish). Available at Alison Craig Home, Naples.

Lilly Pulitzer

Trust this preppy Palm Beach brand to make even the brightest, boldest colors work and work well. Who else could pull off the watermelon pink finish of the Mirasol jewelry armoire or the pink-and-green print of the Ava chaise? Some items in the 200-piece collection include Lee Jofa fabric made exclusively for Lilly Pulitzer Home. Visit www.lillypulitzer.com beginning this month to find local retailers.

Barclay Butera

L.A. designer Barclay Butera’s California roots are reflected in the modern beach collection for his new Barclay Butera Lifestyle line. The weathered wood of the Davenport buffet and hutch would work in a beach cottage or casual condo. The Davenport is sold together ($10,255) or separately at Robb & Stucky. The Brighton woven chair, also from the modern beach collection, retails for $1,225.
