<<Purple Passion

Regal, opulent and noble, this is one color—whether deep purple or a softer lavender—expected to dominate fashion in 2012 and make a prominent appearance in home design. Theodore Alexander’s three-seat Butler lounge sofa from its Althorp Living History collection showcases the tone’s lighter side with Bulmar linen fabric in lilac. <<Wine and Roses

Deeper reds aren’t quite as stimulating as the tone of a Ferrari, but offer the same visual impact. Designer Lisa Ficarra upholstered this Amy Howard chair in Bretano silk with cut-velvet accents for a client. A Lucite lamp and airy artwork don’t compete for attention. The chair retails for $5,680 and is available through Ficarra Design Associates.

<<Build Me Up, Buttercup

Echoing sunshine and luminosity, yellow, according to one national color forecaster, is 2012’s it color. This clean-lined adaptation of an American Federal period sofa, a collaboration between the late Albert Sacks and Hickory Chair Furniture, features subtly shaped arm posts, slender tapered legs and a gracefully curved top rail and back. Its warm shade is spot-on. The Albert sofa, base priced from $4,800, is available at Henredon Interior Design at Miromar Design Center, Estero.

<<Terrific Teal

Teals and turquoises are the of-the-moment colors in Southwest Florida, according to several local designers. And Kincaid Furniture’s new armchair delivers with its Royale Aqua fabric whose palette emulates the Gulf of Mexico and interjects another trend—golden mustard and bamboo accents. Shown with a blend down cushion and dark maple finish, the chair retails for $1,398. Available at Alison Craig Home Interiors, Naples.

<<Mighty Minerals

Warm grays have become the new neutral, and it’s really no surprise the trend has dovetailed into silver-based metallics. Now Poggenpohl brings it into the kitchen with new mineral-inspired colors in melamine and lacquer cabinetry. Here, sand pine wood laminate is accented with fluorite, a mineral prized for its glassy luster. Green, another right-now hue, brings it down to earth. Available at Poggenpohl at Miromar Design Center.

<<Color Combos

Major design houses like Kenzo Maison, Missoni Home and Jean Paul Gaultier provide kaleidoscopic fabrics and a continually updated look for Roche Bobois’ 40-year-old Mah Jong, a free-form sofa that can be grouped and stacked in multiple compositions. Hand-crafted in Italy and shown with Missoni’s iconic zigzag stripes, cushions are priced from $1,700 to $3,000. Mah Jong is available at Roche Bobois in the Miromar Design Center, Estero.

<<Earthy Oranges

Today’s orange borrows its hue from the darker oranges in a sunset and plays well with others—think neutral gray and taupe. The Farnese sofa from Fendi Casa is upholstered in velvet and accented with crocodile-embossed leather panels. Pricing upon request through Fendi Casa at Miromar Design Center, Estero.

<<Singing the Blues

Bid adieu to vapor and spa blues this year. Inkier and brighter blues like indigo and cobalt will command attention. Varaschin’s Tibidabo collection designed by Calvi & Brambilla includes these alfresco armchairs, with dramatically flared backs and white frames contrasted by indigo-hued Sunbrella fabric. Each chair retails for $3,300 and is available exclusively at Casa Italia at Miromar Design Center, Estero.
