What Are the Best Exercises to Cheat Death?

Tennis and racket sports topped the list.

Want to add a few years on your life? Probably best to pick up tennis.

A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine looking at data from 80,000-plus adults found that those who regularly played tennis and other racket sports cut the risk of death by almost 50 percent. The mortality risk was also significantly cut for swimmers and cyclists. Not helped out that much: runners.

“This study reinforces that the best workout has both aerobic exercise and some resistance training, such as swimming, tennis and rowing,” Dr. Satjit Bhusri, of Lenox Hill Hospital, told the New York Daily News. “These are known for both building endurance and also creating strong muscles. You’ve got to have both.”
