Fort Myers Philanthropist and Businessman Tom Cronin Dies

Among his many contributions to Lee County, Cronin revitalized the Shell Factory.

A Fort Myers icon died last week. Tom Cronin, a philanthropist and developer best known for his resurrection of the Shell Factory, died at age 78.

Cronin took over the Shell Factory close to 20 years ago, back when the quirky tourist attraction had almost gone under, and turned it into a bustling theme park that reflected his quirky personality—taxidermy and all.
