We know, we know—there’s a bit of a flu bug going around. But all is not lost. Don’t give in yet. There are ways to avoid getting sick, even in cases where you have a spouse or child whose fallen ill. The New York Times asked the experts for a few tips. Here’s what they said:

First off, make sure you’re washing your hands and doing what you can to avoid your loved ones’ germs. That includes sleeping in the same bed. Also, clean up kitchen and bathroom surfaces well and more frequently.

If you haven’t already, get vaccinated. If possible, ask if your doctor can prescribe family members an antiviral drug for safe measure.

Lastly, do the things that keep yourself healthy: Eat well, exercise, get enough sleep and try to reduce stress.
