Design Trends: Bad to the Bone

Skull imagery isn't just for Halloween anymore.

BY July 22, 2014

Skulls aren’t just for rock stars, Stephen King and Halloween. Fashion houses like Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren and Juicy Couture are dabbling in the macabre, encrusting skull-motif jewelry with pavé diamonds, weaving it into cashmere sweaters and combining lace and skulls into McQueen’s cool kicks. L’Objet’s limited-edition Skull Bijoux features white, gray and black Swarovski crystals handset in Limoges porcelain. $8,000 and available late August/early September at l-objet.com. For subtle skullduggery, the traditional claw foot is replaced by a trio of skulls in Pure Home’s rough-hewn aluminum vase. $219 at purehome.com.
