Style File: Black Tie, Literally
You can still look feminine in a tailored suit and tie.
Angelina Jolie exudes classic cool in this black tie look.
I recently was dressing a client for a black tie dinner and she was regaling me with how she didn’t merely walk anywhere--she STRIDES--which I rather love. She has a no nonsense sensibility and with that we started having the women’s tuxedo conversation. Ralph Lauren has been making women’s elegant tuxedos for years and many others have picked up the trend recently as well. Most notably as of late worn by Angelina Jolie on the red carpet though Diane Keaton has been doing it since her Annie Hall turn and then again in both As Good as it Gets and First Wives Club. Beyonce wore three tuxedos in her Love on Top video alone. The key with female tuxedos is certainly the cut. They really have to be tailored correctly to not pull in the wrong places and also to keep that polish and line for evening. I doubt many can buy and wear one off the rack without perfecting them in a fitting with alterations. But I say give it a try .... and STRIDE!
