New Naples Park $5.3 Million Closer to Complete
In our April issue, which should hit newsstands next week and is already in the hands of subscribers, Associate Editor Michael Korb wrote a piece exploring the Gordon River Greenway. The collection of preserved land and public spaces, which includes the Naples Zoo and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, took a big step toward completion last weekend when organizers raised $5.3 million to help fund the city park that will mark the greenway’s southern terminus.
Thanks to the generosity of folks, such as Jay and Patty Baker who gave $2 million for the park’s naming rights, city officials are almost certain to be ready to start work on the park as soon as permitting is finished. That probably won’t be for another 10 months at the earliest. And we are still looking at two years before the park is fully open to the public, but it was great to see local philanthropists stepping up to the plate to help move the project forward.
