Health Watch: Running at Night Doesn't Hurt Sleep

If you dream of being fit, a new study suggests that working out at night doesn't hurt your sleep pattern after all. Researchers at Arizona State University found that people who work out in the evening sleep just as well as those who don't. While people with morning workouts slept best overall, there was zero difference in sleep quality between those who workout just hours before bedtime and those who sat on the couch all night. So go ahead and workout after dinner. It beats dessert.

Statement Piece: An Awesome Agate Necklace

I was invited to the workshop of Daria de Koning last week and was treated to a tour of all of the one of a kind pieces she is working on for upcoming seasons. However, one piece that caught my eye most, for it’s rough, yet sophisticated feel was this agate necklace. I was first introduced in length to agate by a dear friend in Fort Myers who loves agate pieces, so this definitely peaked my interest. The necklace is two sided, each beautiful and unique. I envision it worn with a simple strapless gown to an event, under a crisp white blouse to lunch or even over a crew neck tshirt. It reminded me of the sand, nature and that sophisticated ease you dream of in Southwest Florida living.  dariadekoning.com The back side of the same necklace.

Can't Sleep? Blame Your Brain

Are you having trouble sleeping? If so, your brain may be messing with your head. A new study from Johns Hopkins University says that the brains of insomniacs are different from the average brain. It seems that insomniac's brains have more plasticity and are better at reacting to change. And while that sounds like a good thing, it's bad at bedtime. Insomniac's brains don't seem to shut off. Researchers are still working on why that is and are a long way off from fixing it. They suggest that if you regularly experience insomnia, to see a sleep specialist. Then again, it sounds like it's all in your head.

Fashion Don't: UGG Indeed

Fashion Don't: UGG Indeed

They are called UGGs for a reason. When you go to the dictionary online and ask to define "ugh" it says: “used to express disgust or horror.” When you simplify to "ug" it states: "(Ugly) displeasing to the senses; Any ugly face; ugly furniture.” Thus I begin my conversation about the UGG boot. One of the only pieces of footwear that can make a lovely lady's ankle appear to be the size of an elephant and cut a woman’s leg in the worst possible location. I am not sure where the allegiance to this boot came from but I beg you to try another boot. For your consideration and its replacement: A classic riding boot. Always chic. Always simple. Fits the leg and accentuates it. Long and lean. Every designer has a variation, and whether...
