Put. Down. The. iPhone.

New study links smartphone use to sleep loss

Repeat after us: It’s OK to put down your phone. We know, it’s hard, but here’s yet another study coming out saying using your smartphone may have unintended consequences.

The report in the journal PLoS ONE found that among its pool of 600-plus participants, sleep time and sleep quality decreased as screen time increased. This comes on the heels of other research that says the light emitted by screens may suppress the production of sleep-encouraging chemical melatonin.

For more info on how smartphone use can hurt sleep, read this in-depth piece from The Atlantic. Just maybe not on your phone.
