Rethinking Our "Cheat" Foods

Help curb your cravings when you're eating right.

We all have a list of foods we know we shouldn't eat but do anyway. We understand. Call them "cheat foods." Even if you're eating right and exercising, it won't hurt too much to go get that extra thick milkshake every now and again … right?

The problem is that every now and again turns into every day, and before we know it we're back in an old, bad habit. So let's rethink this a bit. Lifehacker suggests we think more about "buffer foods" and less about those "cheat foods." Buffer foods aren't quite as gluttonous as cheat foods, but they satisfy the same cravings. A few suggestions: bananas, protein smoothies, a small amount of chocolate, a tablespoon of peanut butter.

So, next time you find yourself craving something sinful, just try a little peanut butter or a banana instead. It might be just what you need to kick those cheat foods.
