Luxury Home & Design
Fit for a king (and queen): Owners Michael and Lorrie Lavery have built several homes together in the last 20 years, including their current residence in Port Royal. A sprawling network of turrets, hand-forged iron, carved stone, artfully designed fountains and lush landscaping looks regally over the Gulf of Mexico.
Step up: A 35-foot entry (top left) features 24-by-24-inch Turkish travertine inlaid with a mixture of Old Italian stone; hand-forged, wrought-iron railings; and imported Italian chandeliers by designer Mariano Fortuny.
Rise and shine: Not surprisingly, the master bedroom takes full advantage of its premium views with floor-to-ceiling windows and doors opening onto a Gulf-front balcony.
Inside out: A full outdoor kitchen (above) with grill, imported Italian stone fireplace and a two-story octagon ceiling accented with hand-cut cedar is an obvious location for the family to spend as much time as possible. The outdoor area (right), Lorrie says, “is the part of the home that sums it all up.” A 1,500-square-foot beachfront pool and two-level fountain tiled in shades of lapis blue give this home total “paradise” status.
