Boudoir Chic

Witness the design touches that make these suites some of the coolest in Southwest Florida.

BY April 13, 2017

Studies show that a good night’s rest is one of the best things you can do for your health. It’s good for your heart, your blood glucose levels, your mood—even your weight. And best of all, you can do it lying down. But while few things make us happier than lush surroundings, searching for some of this area’s best bedrooms left us with a bit of a conundrum: We’d never want to turn out the lights on these beautiful suites—leading to many sleepless nights. Still, we can fantasize about these beautiful bedrooms, and appreciate the interior designers who made somebody’s dream come true.

Hollywood Glamour

If Christian Grey of 50 Shades fame had a bedroom for actual sleeping, this might be it. Light grays over dark grays over shimmering silvers and glistening chrome with pops of white bring out its movie star quality. “Gray is hot in modern interior design,” says Lusia “Lou” Shafran of Pacifica Interior Design. “We wanted this bedroom to create a feeling of a luxurious hotel suite.” Lush textures, including velvet, silk and tapestry, take this transitional space to the next level.

Moody Blue

Most of us do everything in our power to avoid the blues. But a gorgeous deep aquamarine is another story entirely. Actually, according to interior designer Wendy Berry of W Design Interiors, this wall color is Ocean Floor (Benjamin Moore BM 1630). The pillowcases and matching upholstered bench are Schumacher’s Don’t Fret pattern in Blue Marine. Thanks to suspended light fixtures (Hudson Valley Lighting’s Burdett Pendent in polished nickel), the nightstands have space to hold dueling Sarreid blue and white ceramic pottery and any light reading guests may have in mind. Regardless, the real power is coming from that monochrome architectural inset, which will leave guests anything but the hue of blue. Sorry, White House, this is our new favorite blue room.

To Sea and Be Seen

OK, it’s not a waterbed, but you can be forgiven if you struggle to see anything but water in this photo. That view, right? But designer Jenny Provost of K2 Design kept things wonderfully understated in this master with neutral tones above a lovely striped rug from Kravet that runs perpendicular to the ebony-toned wood flooring. “It visually widens this long room,” says Provost. The main wall was hand-painted to meld perfectly with the custom-sized linen/poly headboard, as well as the roman shades and embroidered drapery panels. And when you get bored of the view, you can stare at the clean lines of the ethanol fireplace (stainless steel and matte white lacquer) surrounded by high-gloss lacquered panels, all of which sit above a white oak drawer base. Ethanol fireplaces are “very low-tech, but the way to have a fireplace in spaces where a wood-burning or gas fireplace is simply not an option,” says Provost. It’s not quite the same as a sunset, but romantic just the same.

Tranquility Beige

If a doctor were ever to prescribe a bedroom to produce calm and lower blood pressure, this stunning master by Ficarra Design Associates would be touted by Dr. Oz as a wonder drug. Elegant, strong and clean, it is both contemporary and traditional all at once. The sand-colored walls (it’s actually Sherwin Williams SW75) add a softness that sets the tone from which multiple textures build off each other, culminating with a custom-designed headboard wall fabricated by Coastal Collier Contracting Group. Barbara Berry chairs sit in front of floating Cowtan & Tout draperies that guard doors leading out to the pool deck, which overlooks a beautiful lake. A contemporary coffered ceiling and wide-plank wood flooring complete the look.
