The region's newest and grandest showcase, the Naples Museum of Art, is also its most extensive, with multiple galleries holding a variety of exhibits, including traveling shows. Next door, the Philharmonic Center for the Arts has gallery shows as well. Both Florida Gulf Coast University and Edison College operate galleries with rotating shows.
Area art leagues stage exhibits at their own galleries in the von Liebig Center in Naples, the Alliance for the Arts and the nearby Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers.
There are clusters of galleries throughout the Gulfshore, from the eclectic community in Matlacha on Pine Island, to those on Sanibel Island and throughout Old Naples.
Sure, there are plenty of seascapes, pastel triptychs and sunsets on display. But glass sculpture, jewelry, portraiture, painted furniture and lots of other media are available as well.
Occasionally, Captiva Island resident Robert Rauschenberg allows some of his renowned works to be displayed locally.
