Naples Botanical Garden won't be complete for five years, but visitors will be able to see a bit of what's in store when its Florida Gardens opens Nov. 1. The 1.35-acre garden, the first outdoor display of the 160-acre project, will blend foliage native to Florida with non-native, non-invasive plants that flourish here. "We're digging up the parking lot and putting in paradise," says Rhonda Peters, vice president of marketing for the garden. It will be in the former parking lot at the corner of Bayshore Drive and Thomasson Road in East Naples.
The Florida Gardens include a variety of pathways lined with palms, bromeliads and other tropical species. You can also explore a cypress community with blooming salt-marsh mallows and hibiscus, or lose yourself in a tropical hammock thick with jungle plants and an array of Caribbean flowers. The Florida Gardens will be open seven days a week. For hours and admission price, call 643-7275.
