Everglades Eats

By: John Francis

Everglades Seafood Festival

For a defining taste of Florida, it's hard to beat the Everglades Seafood Festival, which spotlights the bounty of our coastal cuisine: shrimp, crabs, fresh fish, even fried gator tail. Upward of 60,000 visitors annually make the trek to tiny Everglades City for the folksy fest, gobbling up some 3,000 stone crab claws and 10,000 pounds of steamed and fried shrimp.

This year's festival is Jan. 31-Feb. 2. For details, call 695-4100.
