At The Aviary of Naples, it's not always easy to determine who's entertaining whom. Many of the 200-plus feathered inhabitants feel compelled to inject their two cents into conversations. Some tell visitors their names. Others offer a "hello" or blurt out a birdie "I love you." Then there are characters like the West Indian call duck-called Duck, not coincidentally- that amuses itself by waddling after visitors and informing them it wants a treat by nibbling their shoes. Among the exotics on display are talkative African grays, brilliantly hued sun conures, comical toucans, cockatoos, Quaker parrots and red lories. Some 200-plus birds reside at the complex, along with a host of firmly grounded creatures from all over the world. Llamas, camels, donkeys and goats, prairie dogs, wallabies, coatimundis and a Galapagos tortoise, whose dining etiquette leaves something to be desired, thrive in this family-friendly attraction. The aviary also sells birds and bird supplies. There's a nursery where visitors 16 and older can take a peek at the baby birds and, if their timing is right, watch the staff feed them. For kids, there are donkeys that enjoy petting and treats. Animals that aren't temperamentally suited to petting are secured behind double fences. A children's playground and a shaded picnic provide an outlet for youthful exuberance-and a chance for adults to rest and recharge. -- The Aviary of Naples, 9824 Immokalee Road, Naples, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children 4 to 11. Annual passes are available for $25 for adults and $12.50 for children. For details, call the aviary at 353-2215 or log onto its Web site at aviaryofnaples.com.
