Von Liebig Art Center. Two shows, Jeff Whipple: A Twenty-Five Year Retrospective, and Go Figure II, a Naples Art Association member exhibition, close Oct. 4. They're followed by the Florida Visual Art Fellowships 25th Anniversary Exhibition and A Cuban Experience: Photographs of Cuba, 2002, featuring images from photographers on the center's recent contemporary art tour to Cuba, including Janine Macrino, Alison Salke, Charles Kessler, Bettina Edwards and Joyce Kelly. Gallery Victoria. The Fall Invitational Exhibition closes Oct. 6; it's followed by a Shona Sculpture Exhibition of works from Zimbabwe, Oct. 17-31, and the gallery's second anniversary celebration, opening Oct. 31 and featuring works by gallery artists including Dan Brister, Irving Boker, Victoria Brown, Melissa Christiano, Fernando Garcia and others. Naples Museum of Art. The museum unveils its fall exhibition season with Hans Hofmann: A Retrospective, presenting more than 70 works from the painter's long career, and 100 Artists See God, works in diverse media from an international group of artists focused on concepts of God. United Arts Council of Collier County Celebration Kickoff Gala. Marco Island Film Festival. Named one of the top 10 film festival getaways by festival aficionado Chris Gore, the sixth annual event brings another round of independent drama, comedy and animated films to the Gulfshore Nov. 5-9. Naples Downtown Oktoberfest and Sale. Traditional Oktoberfest food and entertainment blend with a street art show and sale this month along Fifth Avenue South. Sale Oct. 17 and 18; art show Oct. 18 and 19. Information: 435-3742.

Swamp Buggy Days. Old Florida Festival. Two days of taking us back hundreds of years through Florida history, from Native Americans to rugged pioneers to Spanish explorers. Naples Philharmonic Orchestra Casual Classics. Conductor Clotilde Otranto and guest violinist Glenn Basham enter Tchaikovsky's World, in a concert that also offers works by Beethoven and Debussy. At 8 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Phil. Then tribute is paid to Beethoven's Eighth by guest conductor Bundit Ungrangsee, at 8 p.m. Oct. 24. Naples Philharmonic Chamber Series. Innovations presents Handel's Water Music Suite and Brahms' Piano Quintet Op. 34 in F minor, at 3 p.m. Oct. 12 and 8 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Phil's Daniels Pavilion. Southwest Florida Symphony. The symphony opens its 43rd season with Shakespeare in Song, a performance including orchestral and choral works from movies and the stage related to the Bard. The orchestra, chorus, children's chorus, youth orchestra and chamber groups will all participate, as will actors from Florida Repertory Theatre. At 8 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Barbara B.
