Galleria at Vanderbilt, at the corner of Airport-Pulling and Vanderbilt Beach roads, (239) 596-2733. This beautiful new shopping center features the Sanibel Steakhouse, a local deli, a salon and a women's clothing shop. Several new upscale retail shops and a first-class hotel and spa are in development.
Hibiscus Center, 2950 N. Tamiami Trail. Features an array of merchandise, including home furnishings, a hair salon and a cigar bar in an art deco building. Look for Zazou when driving down U.S. 41. After shopping, Michael's Café offers upscale French-American meals.
The Plaza, corner of Gulf Shore Boulevard and Broad Avenue. The site of Naples' first hotel now has a contemporary building that houses more than 20 boutiques.
Prime Outlets at Naples, on Collier Boulevard en route to Marco Island, (239) 775-8083. A manufacturer's outlet center with more than 40 shops, including Mikasa, Koret, Dansk and Jones New York. These shops offer value pricing on everything from men's and women's fashions to home furnishings and accessories. The Shops at Eagle Creek, corner of U.S. 41 and Collier Boulevard. A shopping center with an abundance of well-known retailers, offering everything from office supplies and appliances to food and clothing.
Third Street South and The Avenues, located in the heart of Old Naples, (239) 649-6707. Features a collection of more than 100 charming and elegant shops, offering fine clothing, jewelry, artwork, collectibles and home furnishings. Including several restaurants.
Tin City, off U.S. 41 at Goodlette Road, (239) 262-4200. A landmark shopping village, once the site of a 1920s clam cannery. Today it is an expansive center with 33 shops and restaurants, and boat and trolley tours. Newly air-conditioned, this historic mall is open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
The Village on Venetian Bay, at the corner of Gulf Shore Boulevard and Park Shore Drive, (239) 261-6100. A waterfront village with a taste of old Italy. Enjoy more than 50 upscale specialty boutiques, galleries and design studios, five waterfront restaurants providing fine and casual dining and a Ben & Jerry's ice-cream shop. Waterside Shops at Pelican Bay, off U.S. 41 at Seagate Drive, (239) 598-1605. A high-end, outdoor shopping center with Saks Fifth Avenue, Banana Republic, Talbots, Ann Taylor, Chico's, The Gap and more distinctive shops and restaurants.
NORTH FORT MYERS
Merchant's Crossing, 15201 N. Cleveland Ave. (U.S. 41), features superstores of large national retailers for home improvements and discount household items and clothing. There is also a 16-screen movie complex. Assistance for those in wheelchairs is available.
The Shell Factory, four miles north of Fort Myers on U.S. 41, (239) 995-2141. Boasts the largest collection of shells in the world, all within 65,000 square feet of retail space. In addition to shells and marine items from around the world, there are exhibits, tourist items, jewelry and activities. www.shellfactory.com.
SANIBEL ISLAND
Periwinkle Way, Sanibel's main road, features numerous open-air malls, each with a unique personality. From seashells to souvenirs and clothing to crafts, there is something for every taste at the larger plazas: Village Shopping Center, Tahitian Gardens, Periwinkle Place and Islander Center. Most shops close at 6 p.m.
Bailey's Center, corner of Periwinkle Way and Tarpon Bay Road, (239) 472-1516. The island's first shopping center. The Bailey family opened this center in the late 1800s and still own and operate it today. It offers a grocery, restaurant, service companies, hardware store, pharmacy, jewelry store, flower shop and movie theater.
Forever Green Shops, at 2025 and 2055 Periwinkle Way, (239) 472-5354. A covered strip center featuring two ladies' boutiques, an art gallery featuring works of local island artists, and a restaurant with eclectic cuisine and garden dining.
Jerry's of Sanibel, 1700 Periwinkle Way, (239) 472-9300. A variety of stores including Jerry's Foods, a liquor store, jewelry store, art gallery, shoe store and surf shop.
