Samira Beckwith, 51, CEO of Lee County's Hope Hospice, became personally attuned to the needs of those with serious illnesses while undergoing three years of treatment for Hodgkin's Disease in the 1970s. She's used that insight and her training in social work to become a policy shaper in end-of-life-care issues, including testifying before Congress and serving on state and national boards.
