Sandra HesseBy: Tracy Jones2004 Men and Women of the Year |
Real estate development in Southwest Florida is still mostly a man's world, but Sandra Hesse, 65, managing partner of Quail West in Naples and the developer of several other communities, has been a notably successful exception. Hesse, who chose her field after studying Asian art history, brings a creative spirit to business challenges and serves as a board member of the Philharmonic League in Naples.
Birthplace: Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Most notable characteristic: I work best under pressure.
One thing you'd change: Not to procrastinate.
Heroes: My father and Hillary Clinton.
Greatest achievement: In work, putting together a staff that works well together and is proud of being part of creating a wonderful community. In family, close relationships with my two children.
Favorite Southwest Florida spot: Walking the Naples Pier in the evening with friends or family.
Would trade places for a day with: Any famous singer. To sing to a large crowd of people who have paid to hear has to be an enormous high.
Favorite art: The woodblock art of Japanese artist Saito brings back wonderful memories of the two years I spent in Japan and reflects an uncluttered view of the world that speaks to me emotionally.
Perfect day: It would begin with my two Maltese dogs licking my face and nudging me to get up.
What the Gulfshore needs: Truly affordable rental housing for those now living under substandard housing conditions.
