Discover Southwest Florida

Some might argue we don't need art galleries along the Gulfshore when Mother Nature has supplied so much beauty to contemplate. But that bounty probably inspires many artists here to create their own.

The Naples Museum of Art holds 15 galleries exhibiting rotating temporary and permanent collections. In Fort Myers, the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery at Edison College pays tribute to the world-renowned artist, who lives and works on nearby Captiva Island.

Art galleries are easy to find throughout the region, from downtown Fort Myers and Pine Island's funky Matlacha to the commercial centers of Sanibel and Captiva and the quaint neighborhoods of Old Naples. While you'll find a plethora of seascapes and beach scenes fit for framing, many other styles and themes are available as well.

Yet another way to experience art Gulfshore-style is at an outdoor art show, many of which take place in all but the hottest months. Some are juried, while others welcome anyone willing to rent a booth.

Those seized with the desire to fashion their own art can seek guidance and encouragement from several nonprofit art leagues found everywhere from Marco Island to Fort Myers.
