Gotta Have It!

By: Shellie Benson

Want to stay ahead of the fashion curve? We asked area storeowners and managers what the must-have fashions are for this spring. Here are the eight items that sent us running to the shops.

YNNUB

This Los Angeles-based clothing line redesigns existing clothing and turns out one-of-a-kind pieces that are a little bit rock 'n' roll and a whole lot trendy. Ynnub (that's bunny backwards) was created by designers Anamyn Turowski and Paula Scolaro, who have turned ecofriendly, recycled wear into the must-have clothing of the season. Their mix-and-match patterns have been seen on the likes of Brad Pitt, Lisa Kudrow and Rebecca Romijn. Especially hot in Southwest Florida: embroidered Ynnub like this tank, $175. "Anything embroidered is really huge in this line," says Trendy with a Twist owner Tami Magocs. "It's very nice because each piece is unique; there's not another like it."

Get it at Trendy with a Twist Boutique, 331 Fifth Ave. S., Naples. 403-8264.

ROBERT TALBOTT TIES

Ready to make a fashion statement? There's no room for those conservative red-and-blue striped numbers for gents who want to be in style. Purple and periwinkle are the colors of choice . Robert Talbott is the designer to seek. What makes them special and so richly colored is that these ties ($115) are hand-sewn and crafted from 100 percent silks that are woven, giving them a three-dimensional look, says Brodeur Carvell manager Shelly Ficarra. "You're getting more depth to the tie," Ficarra says. "We're going back to the day when color made your outfit." Now you'll add punch to that power suit.

Get it at Brodeur Carvell Fine Menswear, 850 Fifth Ave. S., Naples. 261-7767; 13550 Reflections Parkway, Suite 2-203, Fort Myers; or 5001 Coconut Road, Bonita Springs.

IN-AND-OUT HOOPS

They may be called "in-and-out," but these glittery jewels are definitely in style this spring. The hoop earring has been taken up a notch with the addition of diamonds-lots of diamonds. These in-and-out hoops are made in New York especially for Bigham Jewelers, says owner Kathy Bigham. The shared-prong set diamonds are placed inside and outside the hoops, "for sparkle from all sides," she says. But don't be shy-they can handle up to seven carats of diamonds set in

18-karat white or yellow gold (price available upon request). "We find that most any woman under 100 is either wearing or looking for hoops," Bigham says.

Get it at Bigham Jewelers, 2425 Tamiami Trail N., Naples. 434-2800.

PRETTY PLATFORM SHOES

Gain a few inches and a whole lot of swagger in a colorful pair of platform shoes with peek-a-boo toes. These forest-green suede numbers, $725, were seen strutting all over Spring 2006 Fashion Week, thanks to Gucci's 33-year-old creative chief Frida Giannini. In a departure from Gucci's dark side of recent decades, Giannini mixed a lot of sweet and pretty with plenty of mod and slightly boyish, and finished many runway outfits with these all-purpose pumps. Want to go all-Gucci? Pair them with a Boston bag-another functional must-have.

Get it at Gucci, Waterside Shops, 5415 Tamiami Trail N., Naples. 254-1453.

CHARLES CHANG-LIMA

It's no wonder outfits like this have been flying off the racks at Coplon's on Naples' Third Street South. Venezuela native turned New York designer Charles Chang-Lima is known for creating beautiful silhouettes in dreamy fabrics coveted by women with an urban, sophisticated style. So classic is his design that Oprah has chosen his pretty dresses for on-air makeovers. Coplon's store manager Laurence Cioaba says this white linen skirt with tulle under layering and coral appliqué has been particularly popular in recent months-perfect for a daytime wedding or garden tea party.

Get it at Coplon's, 1190 Third St. S., Naples. 262-6637.

PATEK PHILIPPE WATCH

There are the newest things in fashion-and then there are the time-honored items that remain hot forever. Patek Philippe, with its 160 years of experience in watch design, fits that category of tradition. "If a gentleman is looking for the best, I think Patek Philippe is it," says Bruce Yamron of Yamron Jewelers. "It's the most recognized name as far as conservative collector pieces are concerned." For the season, opt for the leather strap with fold-over clasp rather than a bracelet watchband. From Patek Philippe's Complicated line, this watch offers time, date, day and phase of the moon ($53,950).

Get it at Yamron Jewelers, 380 Broad Ave. S., Naples. 261-7707.

WHITE JEANS

It all started last summer when a Gap ad campaign tried to force-feed us this trend by putting soulful singer Joss Stone into a tight pair of crisp, white jeans while she crooned The Right Time. Apparently, timing wasn't so right, because we had to get over mourning the loss of Gap's former front woman, Sarah Jessica Parker. Time healed that wound, so we're ready to admit we're dying to try a pair of the bleached beauties. Top these Level 99s ($98) with a funky retro concert tee for weekend shopping, or a sparkly halter for a night on the town.

Get it at Mallie Montgomery, 6420 Plantation Park Court,

Fort Myers. 768-9981.

COLOR FOR BLACK-TIE EVENTS

Once you've tried all the tricks with your little black dress (see "Black Magic," p. 77), it's time to do something more daring by ditching the dark and donning some color for your next black-tie event. Terri Eisenfeld, owner and partner of Zola Keller, says women who are afraid to get away from black should choose a color they're drawn to, but start with a muted version of it. "Even bronze with a little bit of shimmer can start the process of getting you away from black," she says. Feeling feisty already? Dance the night away in this "true red" Lourdes Chavez tea-length dress with flutter hem, $1,035.

Get it at Zola Keller, Promenade at Bonita Bay, 26795 South Bay Drive, Bonita Springs. 948-0006.
