Witness the Miracle
|
Fort Myers enjoys a long history as a spring training ground to Major League Baseball, but by April, the boys of summer traditionally flock north along with the region's winter residents. But the Minnesota Twins' Class A affiliate, the Fort Myers Miracle, picks up the ball each spring when the team's season starts at Bill Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle serve up one of the few summer games in town. Over the years, about 25 Miracle members have hit the majors, including Torii Hunter of the Twins and David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox.
To entice baseball lovers and others to the stadium, the team pitches a smorgasbord of promotions, including firework displays at several games; Thursty Thursdays, when all domestic beer is half price; dog night, when fans can take their canine companions out to a ball game; and Family Fun Sunday.
Fort Myers Miracle, Bill Hammond Stadium, Lee County Sports Complex, 14100 Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers; (239) 768-4120 or www.miraclebaseball.com. Tickets: $6 for box seats, $4 for reserved seats. Add $1 for games followed by fireworks.
