Happenings and highlights this season.

Art

Art League of Marco Island. A juried fine art exhibit centered on abstract expressionism continues through July 14. It's followed by Of the Everglades, running July 24 through Sept. 29, with a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 16. 394-4221.

Von Liebig Art Center. Two shows celebrating Native American culture continue through July. Telling and Retelling: Seminole Stories of the Everglades, featuring wall hangings by Black Seminole artist Che-Ke-Ka, continues through July 15. Reservations: Native American Children's Art offers a glimpse of contemporary life on the reservation through the eyes of children, continuing through July 22. Also on display from Aug. 19 through Sept. 17, three-inch acrylic cubes of art in 21st Century Miniatures. 262-6517.

Naples Museum of Art. The museum continues its exhibition Living with Art: Early American Modernism from the Baker/Pisano Collection of the Heckscher Museum of Art, containing works by William Merritt Chase, John Singer Sargent, Georgia O'Keeffe and others, through July 30. Also on view through that date, Modern Mexican Masters. The museum then closes until after Labor Day. 597-1900.

Philharmonic Galleries. The Grand Tour in Miniature-The Stage continues through July 30. 597-1900.

Art League of Bonita Springs. Imaginary Spaces & Places: The Magic of Architecture continues through Aug. 18, while a regional artists exhibition runs through July 27. A reception for both shows takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. July 7, then another regional artists exhibition runs Aug. 4-24. Relive your childhood through the work of Theodor Seuss Geisel during the league's Dr. Seuss Retrospective, on display Sept. 6 through Oct. 13. 495-8989.

Downtown Naples Arts and Crafts Festival. Takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 1 and 2. 435-3742.

Cape Coral Arts Studio. The ceramics of Jo Anne Bedient and the black and white photography of Harry Cutting take over the studio July 7-28, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. July 14. 574-0802.

Lee County Alliance for the Arts. The annual member show Branch Out runs Aug. 4 through Sept. 2; it's followed by Urban Expressions, Sept. 8-29, showcasing the work of local artists Marcus Antonius Jansen and Joan Brechin Sonnenberg. 939-2787.

Children

Jack and the Beanstalk. Broadway Palm Children's Theatre tells the story of Jack, who trades his cow for magic beans and ends up meeting a giant. Performances are July 7, 8, 13, 14, 16, 19, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 30, and also Aug. 2, 4 and 5. 278-4422.

Miscellaneous

Mango Mania. The 10th annual salute to the mango and other tropical fruits is set for July 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the German-American Social Club on Pine Island Road in Cape Coral. Music, kids' rides, arts and crafts and, of course, lots of mango specialties. 283-0888.

Music

Billy Ray Cyrus. Country singer Cyrus turns up to perform at the Phil at 8 p.m. July 15. 597-1900.

SummerJazz on the Gulf. Performances at the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club continue, with the Women's Blues Review performing July 22, and other live jazz performances Aug. 26 and Sept. 16. 261-2222.

Queensrÿche. Fans of the metal musicians will enjoy getting into the world of Mindcrime I and II, onstage at the Barbara B. Mann at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27. 481-4849.

Percussion Summit 2006. The Naples Philharmonic Orchestra greets percussionists from the Atlanta Symphony, Florida Orchestra and Jacksonville Symphony for this special event, which also includes a clinic for students (at 3 p.m. in the Phil's Daniels Pavilion). The summit takes place at 8 p.m. Sept. 9 in Hayes Hall. 597-1900.

Fall Chamber Series. The Baroque Ensemble presents music from Purcell, Vivaldi and Handel, at 3 p.m. Sept. 17 and 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Phil. 597-1900.

Wonderful Woodwinds. Sounds from the Woodwind Ensemble, including one of Mozart's Flute Quartets, Grieg's Woodwind Octet and pieces by Haydn. At 3 p.m. Sept. 24 and 8 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Phil. 597-1900.

Sports

Theater

Smokey Joe's Café. This celebration of the '50s-era songs of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller continues through July 29 at the Naples Players Blackburn Hall, Sugden Community Theatre. 263-7990.

Rock Around the Clock/Groovin'. You can do your time tripping in the 1950s (Rock) and/or '60s and '70s (Groovin') at the Schoolhouse Theater, alternating performances through Aug. 19. 472-6862.

The Sound of Music. The hills are still alive in this Rodgers and Hammerstein perennial, onstage through Aug. 12 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. 278-4422.
