Best of... TV hairdos

The latest ratings are in for the local news shows, and the anchors sure help drive those numbers. But who among them has the best ’do for news? We asked Tracey DiLella, salon artistic director and daughter of Robert of Philadelphia, to monitor the manes on the weeknight evening news. With 20 years “behind the chair”—including some styling work for television—she knows what it takes for tresses to look good under the lights. Her criteria? Good condition and integrity of the hair—if it looks healthy and shiny, and if it frames the face with the right color and cut.

The winner? FOX4. “From the minute we turned it on, it was attractive,” says DiLella. “The hair, on both [Patrick Nolan and Krista Fogelsong] looked fantastic. It was updated, age appropriate; it moves and doesn’t look so done. It may have a little bit of spray in it, but it’s a softer look.”

Fogelsong, who gets her hair highlighted and cut once a month at Studio RK in Fort Myers, says the majority of e-mails she receives are about her hair. “People have described it as glamorous,” she says. “But I’m just going for easy to do and not offensive.”
