George & Wendy’s Corner Grill a Sanibel Success

George & Wendy’s Corner Grill opened in Sanibel Island’s Bailey’s Center, at the corner of Tarpon Bay Road and Periwinkle Way. Over time, it has been the site of Tarwinkle's Seafood Emporium, The Seafood Factory (owned by Andy and Brenda Biddles), Randy Post’s innovative Gasparilla's Grill and then Biddle's Bucket (also by the Biddles). Well-known Sanibel restaurateurs George and Wendy Schnapp’s newest dining spot may well be the most successful restaurant at this site. 

It has been completely renovated, with a bright, tropical look, accented by Stacie Krupa’s colorful paintings. The pricing is in line with other Sanibel spots. Selections are family-oriented, with most kids’ meals for less than $6. For lower-priced adult-sized dinner items, there's the Reuben for $10, grouper fingers for $15 and blackened grouper tacos for $15. For bigger appetites, try sweet bourbon-marinated salmon ($24), pan-seared Schnapper snapper ($25), seafood linguine ($24), 16-ounce char-grilled rib eye ($29) and twin four-ounce lamb chops ($25).

The large restaurant has a full bar, and nearby widescreen TVs. Come for varied weekend live music, which is hard to find on the Island since Ellington’s closed.

Twilight Cafe & Wine Bar: Robert Park’s newest Sanibel Island eatery

Robert Parks, a Sanibel chef and restaurateur since 1996, is doing well at his newest restaurant located in the former site of Andrea’s Gourmet Market.

The food is delicious. Service is good. I recommend the $15 Twilight combo letting one sample two pan-seared crab cakes, toasted foccacia bruschetta and a pair of crisp coconut shrimp. A clever treat is the goat cheese-stuffed crabcakes for $12.  You can’t go wrong with the oh-so-tender grilled veal chop for $32, with its side of grilled broccoli and roasted corn and crawfish mashed potatoes.
