Jennifer’s to Host Book Signing by Artist Myra Roberts on April 13

Apr 13, 2017
02:00 PM until 06:00 PM

Jennifer’s boutique will host a book signing by artist Myra Roberts and author Brian Johnson on Thursday, April 13 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.   Roberts is one of the best-selling artists in Southwest Florida.  Since moving to Sanibel in 1999, her vintage-style paintings have evolved from quintessential flirtatious beach fun to tackle serious subjects such as Hurricane Charley, lost island landmarks and the horrors of the Holocaust.   Roberts collaborated with author Brian Johnson on three books that will be available for purchase:

  • Retro Images from the Florida Coast – Roberts’ hard cover art book, with 71 color plates.   Original, vintage-style art portrays the things people love about Florida: palm-fringed beaches, blue-green water, sea turtles, bathing beauties, and other tropical scenes. Her paintings, like those of Norman Rockwell, tell a story that appeals to people of all ages and interests.
  • Project Tolerance - The Faces of Anne Frank - a collection of 30 oil paintings of Anne Frank.  The original oil paintings of Anne Frank’s life took nearly two years to painstakingly create. They depict the innocence and joy that was ultimately lost in Anne Frank’s young life during the Holocaust.
  • The Retro Art of Myra Roberts – Roberts’ newest book contains 96 images of her most recent paintings.  This edition has retro mermaids, Florida maps and wildlife, sisters and friends, and mermaids doing yoga (Roberts’ favorite activity other than painting).  Many of the images are based on Sanibel and Captiva’s rich history of places and people.

Roberts will also have her original artwork on display.  Her paintings are in public and private collections across the United States and Europe, including the estate of Robert Rauschenberg. Roberts received letters of endorsement for her “Faces of Anne Frank” project from former Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton, and the Jane Goodall Institute. Roberts does exhibitions and lectures about her art, much of which is based on interviews of Holocaust survivors and heroes. WGCU Public Media, in partnership with the Southwest Florida Community Foundation and the Women’s Fund of Southwest Florida, chose Roberts as one of five “2016 Makers: Women Who Make Southwest Florida,” based on her impact in the arts and social justice in Southwest Florida.

Complimentary wine, champagne and cupcakes will be served.
