The Naples Concert Band (www.NaplesConcertBand.org), under the direction of Harris Lanzel, will present a Concert in the Park on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Cambier Park Bandshell in Naples.
The first concert of the New Year will feature guest soloist, John Davis, and vocalist, Tony Pulera.
An accomplished pianist, Davis studied piano performance with Ann Rutledge and vocal performance with Barbara Manford at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, graduating with a B.A and M.A. and continues his education by taking Master Classes with Maestro Hector Olivera. Davis is a twenty-year veteran music teacher here in Collier County and currently teaches at Pelican Marsh Elementary. He is the 2012 Collier County Elementary Teacher of the year.
Originally from Chicago, vocalist Tony Pulera has a diverse vocal performance background with venues in Las Vegas; New York; Chicago; Monterey, Ca; and a worldwide USO show tour as the opening act for Steve Martin and Jay Leno. Pulera is currently the professional church soloist at The Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs. He is a member of the Music Makers Show Band and the Naples Jazz Orchestra.
The January 20 performance repertoire will include Davis’ rendition of the First Movement of Grieg’s “Piano Concerto in A minor”, in addition to other classics. Pulera will perform his vocal magic with a medley of songs entitled “Barry Manilow On Tour”. A special arrangement of “Slaughter On Tenth Avenue” arranged by Band members Jim Day and Jym Moore as well as several spirited marches and a variety of exciting concert band arrangements will complete the afternoon program.
Special thanks to the January entertainer sponsor, UBS Financial Services.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early with lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Admission is free, with donations appreciated. Donations received at each concert help to defray operating expenses and are applied to The Band’s Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships each year to deserving student members of the band.
