The Southwest Florida Pastel Society serving Punta Gorda to Marco Island and beyond was established in 2003 with the reviving interest in pastel made popular by the Impressionists. Pastels are best known for their superior quality of color and light achieved through the use of pure pigment with reflective qualities not found in other mediums. The creativity and expertise of our artists has grown over the years with programs and workshops for the members. This past summer over 10 of our 100 plus members attended the International Association of Pastel Societies inAlbuquerque, New Mexico. Our artists also teach and volunteer in our community and schools. Pastels are not just “pastel” in color and are not just chalk, but a creative and respected art medium lasting through the ages. Come see what our artists have to offer in this judged yearly show. There will also be a walk and talk on February 10th from 6-7 to meet the artists and to learn more. The art will be for sale with part of the profits going to The Alliance for the Arts Fort Myers.
