Insider's Guide: Galleries & Visual Art

Art smart: From classic to contemporary, Southwest Florida has art for every taste.

Art collectors come from around the globe to acquire fine paintings, sculpture, photography and objets d’art here on the Gulfshore. Scores of galleries and ateliers reflect our love of all things beautiful. From oil and watercolor to glass, bronze and clay, from exquisite miniatures to massive one-of-a-kind installations, art treasures come in all sizes and all media.

In addition to the spacious, world-class galleries like the Patty & Jay Baker Naples Museum of Art, The von Liebig Art Center (Naples) and the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center (Fort Myers), the gallery rows in Old Naples, downtown Fort Myers and on Pine Island, you’ll encounter important works of art gracing both indoor and outdoor spaces in the form of sculpture, mosaics, murals, fountains and ironworks. You’ll discover them peeking out from private gardens, and in turn-of-the-century fisherman’s shacks, on the grounds of our nature preserves and conservancies, and on the walls of local restaurants. Don’t forget to explore the roadside shops and galleries extending to the outer reaches of Paradise, through Seminole and Miccosukee lands and deep into the Big Cypress Swamp, where world-famous Everglades photographer Clyde Butcher has his studio.

On the first Friday of each month, the Historic River District of Fort Myers celebrates the arts with gallery open houses, receptions and live music. Old Naples has its Thursdays on Third (Third Street South) and Evenings on Fifth (Fifth Avenue South).
