What to Wear: Magic Under the Mangroves

Our style expert suggests how to dress.

BY February 27, 2018

As befits an on-site event in support of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida (Thursday, March 8) the requested dress code for Magic Under the Mangroves is “eco-chic,” and jackets preferred for gentlemen. The chic bit is easy to grasp, but what about the “eco” prefix? Unfortunately, the fashion industry is one of the biggest offenders in terms of pollution and consumption of resources, so it behooves us all to make careful choices with our clothing. A great way to do this—and perfect on this occasion—is to wear gently worn, repurposed or vintage pieces. In our part of Florida, there are several high-end consignment stores and shops selling vintage garments. What could be better than procuring something beautiful and chic at a marked-down price? Alternatively, shop for garments made from sustainable fabrics such as Tencel, viscose, hemp, bamboo, linen and silk. You’ll enjoy the evening even more knowing your fashion sense makes good sense ecologically.
