Shopportunities: Masculine Touches, Yet Still Feminine

BY May 8, 2017

I’m particularly fond of menswear-inspired fashions, but how can I make them work without looking too mannish?  —Katya B., Naples

The timing of your question couldn’t be better, as this season there are plenty of great ways to add masculine touches to your wardrobe. The key to keeping the look feminine is to pick pieces in a traditionally “male” fabric or style but with a woman’s cut. For example, a full-sleeved shirt in a banker stripe is fresh and modern, and combines two trends in one. Look for shoes and bags in pinstriped materials to elevate the simplest outfit to sharp and sassy territory. Top off your outfit with a beautifully cut blazer, or add some swagger with a lightweight trench coat—another big seasonal trend and a timeless way to borrow from the boys.
