Discover Southwest Florida: Sports & Recreation
Would you rather see a live professional baseball game or go deep-sea fishing? Would you pass up a chance to see a professional hockey game in favor of a spectacular cycle trip from Naples Bay to Lover’s Key?
Here’s the good news: The calendar here is so packed with options that you need not give up one for another. Fort Myers is the spring training home of both the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins. The Florida Everblades pro hockey team calls Estero home, and our own minor-league baseball team, the Fort Myers Miracle, plays all summer. In addition to dog races, The Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Track simulcasts the Kentucky Derby and other top horse races.
And then there’s the water. If you’re not sailing, paddling, cruising, fishing or swimming in it, getting your golf ball out of it, strolling or cycling beside it, or staring at it from your cabana, deck or balcony, maybe you took a wrong turn at Albuquerque.
You can join a personal water-craft safari or take a wild ride on an airboat. Or, if you’d rather keep your head way, way above water, book a helicopter flight and see all of Paradise from the clouds.

We adamantly defend our claim to the most golf holes per capita in North America. Our lush, subtropical courses and ocean links bear the signatures of the greatest golfers and course designers of our time. Many of our 90-plus courses are private or semi-private, but watch for special play-around promotions. Several hotels also offer guest privileges at private courses. And here’s a secret: The South Florida PGA offers a summer golf pass to more than 200 courses throughout the region for play between May 1 and Oct. 31 for just $48!
