It’s that time of year again, when your social calendar is rapidly filling up and every event stipulates different attire, so I thought some tips on deciphering those dress codes might come in handy. I’ll dispense with white-tie (rare) and black-tie (self-evident), as their very formality allows for little deviation.
Cocktail or semi-formal: The ideal occasion to break out your little black dress. A dressy jumpsuit is an entirely suitable alternative.
Resort/beach formal: More relaxed than cocktail, especially your footwear—think jeweled sandals or wedges for beach or poolside events.
Smart-casual: The most confusing dress code. Pants, day dresses, separates (including dark jeans) are all appropriate—the key is to look polished.
Florida-casual: Your favorite jeans will be fine, but feel free to dress them up with a fitted T-shirt and some simple jewelry if you prefer a more put-together look.
