Penthouse Panache

The penthouse at bonita bay’s estancia by the Lutgert Companies was a wide-open space with stunning views of Estero Bay. When the design team from Marc-Michaels Interior Design International was called in to furnish the space, the goal was to section off some of the rooms to create more intimate spaces with lots of personality, says Mark Tremblay, chief operating officer at Marc-Michaels.

“We were going for a more transitional approach for the interior package,” he says. “For the color palette, we wanted to keep it more neutral with pops of color, like the cinnamon sofa and accent pillows.”

Traditional furnishings sit next to more contemporary lines and upholstery as well as strategically placed Asian accents throughout the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home. The effect is eclectic, showing off warm tones, chic comfort and—from nearly every vantage point—that to-die-for view.

“Because it’s on the water, we felt it was going to be a vacation home, so we wanted to keep it [as] relaxed and informal as we could get away with,” Tremblay says.

Eye level: Designers at Marc-Michaels Interior Design paired tall lamps and a custom-built buffet with lower-backed chairs and an armed daybed to vary the height of the room’s elements—without blocking the view.

Mix and match: A traditional table is surrounded by more transitional-style chairs in the dining room, above, and the mirrors with grillwork add personality to the room. “It’s not too dialed up to be too formal, but not too casual, either,” says Mark Tremblay of Marc-Michaels. For the master bedroom, right, a curved wall of windows and zebra-skin rug give a more relaxed feel.

Window of opportunity: The open floor plan and ample views provide the ideal space for a six-seat breakfast nook, above. Left, a maple built-in houses a red marble fireplace and two Asian chests in the family room. “We wanted to keep it on the relaxed side and bring in a little bit of Asian influence,” Tremblay says. “It’s a little bit of a twist on what would typically be expected.”
