Best Bite: Pot Roast at Cafe Lurcat

We're swooning over this high-end comfort food.

Pot Roast at Cafe Lurcat

In the past decade, we have come to rely on the upstairs at Cafe Lurcat: the vaulted ceiling, Fifth Ave views, Chagall-esque artwork and, of course, modern American cookery. So when it was announced the menu was being overhauled, some were ready to trade forks for pitchforks if favorites didn’t make the cut. Much has changed—two-thirds of the menu is in constant rotation (the seasonal-focused “market” and “voyage” dishes paying homage to world cuisines)—but the “traditions” selections are here to stay, including the unbeatable pot roast. As soon as its copper lid is lifted tableside revealing the mélange within, you know you’re in for a treat. Plump pearl onions, sweet carrots and meat so tender it slices like butter compose the ultimate high-end comfort food.
