Best Bite: Bao Buns at Blu Sushi

BY June 30, 2015

Sacré blu! A longstanding Fort Myers microchain of sushi joints is causing quite the hullabaloo. The Gulf Coast Town Center space, which has always boasted fare beyond raw fish and rice, split off along with an FGCU campus spot to form two Blue Sushis. Meanwhile, the owners of the strictly sushi McGregor locale added a chef-partner who wanted to flex his culinary muscles, so that team just opened a second Blu Sushi in the River District. We couldn’t help raising an eyebrow at some of its unexpected hot plates (lamb Bolognese?) but couldn’t get enough of others, like the bao buns. Generous shavings of pork mingle with matchsticks of cucumber, carrot and red onion, all wrapped up with piquant sweet chili sauce in sticky steamed rolls.
