Women Rule at Theatre Conspiracy, Starting This Friday

We have a suggestion for your next girls' night out...

BY October 1, 2015

Women rule at Theatre Conspiracy this season.

The Fort Myers-based troupe is dedicating its entire 2015-16 lineup to female playwrights and their contributions to the stage, starting tomorrow night with Lillian Hellman’s Toys in the Attic.

Not only that, the company is offering $11 tickets to any woman under the age of 41 all season long as a way of engaging younger viewers. Talk about an opportunity for a girls’ night out—and a chance to support underrepresented women writers.

“This year’s celebration of female playwrights is an important statement for us to make,” says Bill Taylor, the producing artistic director. “We also need to attract younger audiences that will stay with us over time. The average age of our theater-goers is over 55. We need to make an effort to encourage younger people to attend, participate and support the arts. The shows we have this year are perfect for that. Funny, poignant, a little off-the-wall. We are covering the gamut.”

Individual tickets are $24. Women under 41 and students with proper ID are $11. Group and season rates are also available. For more information, call 936-3239 or visit theatreconspiracy.org.

Toys in the Attic opens Friday at 8 p.m. at the Foulds Theatre at the Lee County Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers.
