Road to Rio: Justine Bowker's Dream of Olympic Glory

The Naples resident is prepping for the 2016 USA Swimming Olympic Team Trials

BY May 26, 2016

Perched atop a starting block at the pool inside the FGCU/Lee County Aquatics Complex in Estero, Justine Bowker, a 29-year-old Naples resident and Olympic hopeful, dives into the water at the command of coach Neal Studd. Every day, except Sunday, she swims at top speed.

The purpose of the practice? To get ready to compete in the 2016 USA Swimming Olympic Team Trials, scheduled for June 26 through July 3 in Omaha, Nebraska. The winners will go on to compete at the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro in early August.

No easy feat, Bowker has qualified in four events: the 100-meter butterfly, 100-meter breaststroke, 200-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley.

The Olympic Trials will be televised on NBC Universal Sports and promises to be thrilling, fast-paced and your opportunity to support our hometown hopeful—Justine Bowker.
