It wasn’t too long ago that we anointed the year’s 10 best new restaurants. Because the story practically begs for a party, we happily indulged, inviting all the winning chefs to whip up bites and cocktails for our readers. As 300 hungry guests restaurant-hopped (with no traveling required!), we put attendees to a difficult task—selecting their favorite canapé among the dozens served. People voted in real time on their phones, and although it was a tight race, the “South American” from Tacos & Tequila Cantina in North Naples took the prize for its bold mix of complex flavors. Starting with a supple flour tortilla, it’s showered with shreds of slow-simmered beef and the bright Argentinean sauce that carries notes of fresh parsley and minced peppers, and it’s capped by a chili-spiked crema and salty sprinkle of cotija.
