The summer heat is no joke, and while water is essential for hydration, it’s not exactly exciting for your taste buds.

Cactus water is the hot new plant-based drink that could give you some health benefits and keep you hydrated and healthy. It is known to be rich in antioxidants and taurine.

“Taurine is an amino acid that is naturally made in the body. It functions as a really powerful antioxidant, so it helps to quench free radicals and (reverse) muscle tissue damage,” says Shira Lenchewski, an LA-based dietitian for Elle magazine.

Typical cactus water on the market consists of prickly pear cactus extract, filtered water, organic sugar, organic lemon and added natural flavor.

So, enjoy the heat waves of summer with a glass of cactus water; your body will appreciate it, not to mention your taste buds.
