Secrets of Jennifer’s Success

Back in 1983, Jennifer Williams opened Jennifer’s on McGregor Boulevard and remarked to one of her early customers, “If I can just make it five years…” Trends have come and gone, but Jennifer’s is still there. Williams has survived the unforgiving world of retail, but she never quite feels like she can coast. And maybe that’s the story of her success.

As we introduce the new and hot retail news for this season, Jennifer gives us some ideas about what it takes to remain hot after all these years.

– Guide the customer through the latest trends. “You can buy clothes anywhere,” she says. “We cultivate the mindset of how to put it together.”

– Add a personal touch. “It kind of feels like Cheers in here,” she says. Everybody knows your name—and they’ll offer you a glass of wine at the front door.

– Connect with the community. Jennifer’s hosts Fashion Forward Fridays, where a portion of profits gets donated to a local nonprofit. Its annual food drive for the Community Cooperative brought in close to 1,200 pounds this year.
