A lack of sleep may be affecting you on a cellular level.
A new study conducted at UCLA found that a sleepless night basically disrupts the neurons in your brain to the point where they’re not communicating effectively. So, if you’re feeling foggy or spaced out (or even start forgetting things) the next morning, it’s because your neurons are firing at a much slower pace.
The study looked at only 12 patients, but the researchers stated that the evidence collected is enough to merit their conclusion and call for further study.
The researchers also stressed that going too long without sleep is fairly similar to drinking too much. Take that into consideration the next time you’re on a long road trip.
