Your mind is racing. You can’t get comfortable. Before you know it it’s 3 a.m., and you’re still wide-awake.

Next time this happens to you, take 5 minutes and make a to-do list. A study at Baylor University found that people who wrote a detailed list of tasks they recently completed and needed to compete the next day tended to fall asleep more quickly. This idea has been around for a while, but the study is a step forward it showing how it works—essentially, writing down tasks is a way to think through your worries and “offload” them for the night.
