Design Trends: Furniture Goes Plaid

Check out these hot tartan looks for your home.

BY May 20, 2014

Proving 2014’s tartan trend is red hot off the runway and golf course (like the kilt-clad gentleman I recently encountered fresh from the links), Alexander Julian brings it home, forgoing fabric for tailored furnishings rendered in plaid wood tones. The fashion icon’s new collection for Jonathan Charles keeps it real to his Scottish ancestry and clan, introducing the MacLeod tartan in ‘carmel’ and pastel hues on a hand-laid marquetry chest. The bowtie drawer pulls in the middle are a nod to Julian’s haberdashery origins. His tartan mirror features five exotic woods inland to create the plaid effect. Available through European Traditions, Naples.
